API 5L series has various grades in it ranging from X42 to X80. The X followed by the number indicates the mechanical minimum yield strength of the pipes. The pipes are formed in two different product specification levels. The PSL1 and the PSL2 are in deigned in specific conditions and are used for different applications. The APL5L X80 carbon steel pipes are usually made in two forms seamless and welded, the good mechanical properties helps in better formability of these pipes and provides even better durability. The pipe has better resistance from corrosion and erosion, along with that it also prevents pitting and stress corrosion cracking up to certain level.
There is vast application for this pipe and a buyer has the liberty to choose from various wall thicknesses ranging up to SCH160. With the customization option the X80 grade can also be altered in different shapes, sizes, dimensions, lengths, ends, diameter, and forms. The versatile features and specifications of this pipe make it a favorable choice among various commercial sectors. The mechanical properties being the main element in this the minimum yield strength is 70300 psi or 485 MPa, hence the X70 pipes are also known as L555 grade of carbon steel pipes.
While the minimum tensile strength is 92100 psi or 635 MPa, this contributes towards better structure retention and overall strength. To complement these chemical components help the pipe retain its structure and provides resistance from various corrosions. The X70 or L485 carbon steel pipes has a huge demand in various commercial sectors as it falls under higher category among other grades. Industries like textile, petroleum, petrochemical, sugar, fertilizer, power generation, oil and gas industry, pulp and paper industry, chemical industry, water supply, and more use this pipes for various day to day applications.
